The initial SEO Challenge of this web, and the most important KPI, was to recover the positions in Google that were lost with a previous SEO Supplier that specialized in duplicating the web in other domains and creating external links. The Blackhat SEO techniques used by the previous supplier had been in operation for over a year, and so the "anti SEO" effect on this project in Google was considerable, with a 90% loss of keywords following a Google Algorithm update where this web was flagged as Blackhat and "blacklisted" (sandboxed) for vital keywords.
We have seen the same Blackhat SEO techniques from the same supplier in another of our projects, but thankfully, in this case, the supplier was removed from the project after only 6 months, and its Blackhat techniques were only effective for 3 months. It is, of course, easier and quicker to reverse 3 months of Blackhat SEO, but in this project, it was over 12 months and so even after one year there are still some keywords that have not fully recovered.
The main issue with Long-Term Blackhat SEO is that the communication with Google is broken, and the normal EC Engine communications techniques with Google, both direct and indirect, are completely ignored. The web is effectively "blacklisted" or "sandboxed". In these cases, your only option is to reverse the Blackhat and then wait patiently until Google resumes the communication. This may take 3-6 months, but once you are out of the "sandbox", once the communication with Google has been reestablished, the improvements are gradual and continuous.
A secondary effect of the Blackhat SEO carried out in this project was a similar "external link generation" technique used not to "promote" the web but to "attack" the web. Thankfully this "external link generation" popular with many SEO Suppliers is completely IGNORED by Google whether is trying to promote the target web or defame it. But it is an interesting indication of why you should choose your SEO Supplier carefully. Indeed it is better to have NO supplier than a Blackhat supplier.
While most of the work on this project has been concentrated on reversing the Blackhat SEO, EC Center has recovered many of the previous keywords and identified new keywords, which we are optimizing daily. Gaxiaofan also provides quality blog content to keep the web growing and the google bots interested. This project carried out SEO in Japanese and Arabic in addition to the more common English and Spanish.
